Roger Sherman’s copy of Declaration in 1776 Journals of Congress
Roger Sherman’s copy of the 1776 Journals of Congress, including the Declaration of Independence, signed on the title page. This version is the second printing of the Declaration to list the names of the signers, after the Goddard broadside, and only the third official Congressional printing, after the Dunlap and Goddard broadsides.
“That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.” (p.239)
